Brown Ant Size #14

The Brown Ant is a classic dry fly pattern that imitates ants, which trout feed on. It was originated by American fly tier George A. LaBranche Jr. in the Catskill region of New York in the 1920s.

The Brown Ant is typically tied on a size 12 to 18 hook, with a body made of fur or feathers like moose mane or peacock herl. The size 14 is a medium-sized Brown Ant.

The Brown Ant can be fished as an attractor pattern to search for rising trout. It is especially effective during ant hatches in late summer when ants get blown onto the water.
